The battery is a device that converts chemical energy directly into electrical energy and is designed to be recharged by a reversible chemical reaction. The battery case contains the electrolyte and the electrode plate. The battery will continue to heat up during the charging and discharging process, so the battery case needs to be highly heat resistant and flame retardant. Secondly, the battery shell may be damaged by drops and impacts when the battery is in use, so it also needs to have good impact resistance.

Early batteries were mainly made of hard rubber, which was hard and brittle and had poor impact resistance, and ABS, a high strength, tough and easy to shape polymer material, has been used to make battery housings. In order to make ABS materials with high flame retardant and heat resistant performance, most of the ABS materials are added with flame retardant and heat resistant agent to improve the flame retardant and heat resistant performance of ABS materials, such as the Chinese patent with authorization number CN101235184B discloses a kind of flame retardant ABS material for lead-acid battery case

8. Cleanliness: no marks or strains on the inner and outer surfaces of the plastic shell, no cracks in any part.
9. Standard degree: the colour of the bottom groove, top cover and top cover piece is basically the same as the standard colour (there is no obvious colour difference visible to the naked eye and no different colour visible to the naked eye when looking at the plastic shell under bright light at a distance of 30±3cm from the plastic shell.) The colour of the cover is generally the same as the standard colour (no difference in colour visible to the naked eye under bright light at 30±cm from the shell).
10. Protection: the bottom groove, top cover and cover piece are protected by protective film.
11. Dimensional fit.
Bottom groove, top cover with uniform gap, the gap in each direction is less than 1.5mm
The fit gap between the top cover piece and the top cover in all directions is less than 0.5mm
12. Heat resistance: the sample is put into a constant temperature box at 70±2℃ and kept for 3 hours, the change in length, width and height is less than 1.3mm

What is the difference between using PP and ABS as battery casing materials?

ABS material and PP material are the two main materials used to make battery housings.
ABS material has good strength and a brighter colour, but its molecular density is low and water vapour can easily penetrate the battery tank walls. If the battery is used for a long time, the battery will easily lose water and may shorten the life of the battery. Batteries made of ABS are usually sealed with epoxy glue, which is prone to ageing and makes the battery less airtight. Furthermore, the sealing process is usually manual, which makes it difficult to ensure the stability of the battery. Domestic batteries are basically made of ABS material.
The PP material is soft, stretchable and will not burst under high pressure. PP material has good heat solubility and is suitable for battery heat sealing process, which is difficult to glue seal. The use of machine heat sealing can ensure the sealing effect of the battery and the stability of the battery quality. Foreign imported batteries basically use PP material to make batteries.
